JEGA, our hero

INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega

I am surprised with lots of Nigerians on their short-sightedness at issues sometimes. Many are hailing the Nigerian incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan as a hero, why???
for conceding defeat to an election which he lost...hmmm???

Wait a minute, isn't that what losers are supposed to do???
Hmmm!

Well, as much as it is honourable of Jonathan to have conceded victory to his opponent, please let us not try to take the shine from the real man, the man who despite all pressures delivered a poll we are all proud of today... even though you may not believe it, this man, is the saviour of our democracy not GEJ nor GMB because if he had wanted he would have followed in the paths of his predecessors:

  • Eyo Esua (1960-1966)
  • Michael Ani (1976-1979)
  • Victor Ovie-Whiskey (1983)
  • Ephraim Akpata (1998-1999
  • Abel Guobadia (2000-2005)
  • Maurice Iwu (2005-2010)

..men who as umpires jettisoned the constitution for their principal's ambitions.

In my books, Jega now ranks second in terms of importance among the following former Electoral commission chairmen:

  • Eme Awa (1987-1989)
  • Humphrey Nwosu (1989-1993)
  • Prof. Okon Uya (1993-1994)
  • Sumner Dagogo-Jack (1994-1998).

he introduced PVC and card reader
Just in case you wish to know who ranks first on the list to me, it is Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, from Anambra State (South-east) who took over from Awa, his former teacher, and served till 1993. He conducted the June 12 election (presumed to have been won by the late Chief Moshood Abiola) which up till Saturday 28th March, 2015 was seen as the freest and fairest election ever in the history of Nigeria. It was under him that the electoral commission introduced the novel voting system of Option A4 and Open Ballot System just like under Jega, the commission introduced the card reader and PVC which helped to check irregularities thereby saving our democracy..

Jegaquin...antidote for Orubetitis
What really endeared me to him was the way he handled Orubebe
(many funny guys out there claim he gave Jegaquin for Orubebe's Orubebetitis, how funny, lolz) and the other PDP agents during the collation exercise, he proved to us all that indeed he knows his onions.

JEGA is the man...all hail JEGA
all hail JEGA, our hero
all hail JEGA, the saviour of our democracy!!!!

PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN CONGRATULATES BUHARI, WINNER OF THE 2015 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Yes, it is true... history has been made in the most populous black nation. An incumbent president lost out in an election to return to office.

Many have thought that President Goodluck Jonathan will toe the path of Nigerian former leaders who by all means wins re-election. Contrary to majority views and opinions, he has decided to accept the elections in good fate and had even called his opponent, Muhammadu Buhari to congratulate him on his emergence. A feat which many saw as unlike a Nigerian President and as such is worthy of commendations.

Yesterday, he went a step further to make a press release on his position concerning the outcome of the elections. Read full text below:

Fellow Nigerians,

I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections.I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure.

Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress.

As I have always affirmed, nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country is more important than anything else.

I congratulate all Nigerians for successfully going through the process of the March 28th General Elections with the commendable enthusiasm and commitment that was demonstrated nationwide.

I also commend the Security Services for their role in ensuring that the elections were mostly peaceful and violence-free.
To my colleagues in the PDP, I thank you for your support. Today, the PDP should be celebrating rather than mourning. We have established a legacy of democratic freedom, transparency, economic growth and free and fair elections.

For the past 16 years, we have steered the country away from ethnic and regional politics. We created a Pan-Nigerian political party and brought home to our people the realities of economic development and social transformation.
Through patriotism and diligence, we have built the biggest and most patriotic party in Nigerian history. We must stand together as a party and look to the future with renewed optimism.

I thank all Nigerians once again for the great opportunity I was given to lead this country and assure you that I will continue to do my best at the helm of national affairs until the end of my tenure.
I have conveyed my personal best wishes to General Muhammadu Buhari.
May God Almighty continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
I thank you all.

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR
President,
Federal Republic of Nigeria
