NIGERIA 2015: PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION RESULTS (1)

As at 10am this morning, the results of the presidential election that was held across Nigeria are yet to be announced which has kept Nigerians on edge on what actually is their fate.

I must admit that may be the first time in Nigeria that election collation has taken so long and also the first time in Nigeria that almost everyone in Nigeria is so concerned about the outcome of the elections. CENTUPOET reporting for TEAM VICSSIE has compiled the results so far released by INEC as we await the release of the remaining results. At the moment, INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega is the most important personality in Nigeria if not the whole world because the reactions of the most populous black nation are directly dependent on his actions and inactions today.

So far, the results of 18 states have been made available by INEC with FCT make it 19. But, we have below the results of 16 states including FCT as the true source of the ones we got was yet to be verified at the time of writing.

The results as released by INEC are as follows:

Ekiti:            APC – 120, 331;
                    PDP – 176, 466
Ogun: APC 308, 290;
           PDP 207, 950

          PDP – 157, 195
Oyo: APC – 528, 620;

          PDP – 303, 376
Nasarawa: APC – 236, 838;

                  PDP – 273, 460
Kano: APC – 1, 903, 999;

            PDP – 215, 779
Jigawa: APC – 885, 988;

              PDP – 142, 904
Katsina: APC – 1, 345, 441;

              PDP – 98, 937
Kwara: APC – 302, 145;

              PDP – 132, 602
Kaduna: APC – 1, 127, 760;

              PDP – 484, 085
Anambra: APC – 17, 926;

               PDP – 660, 762
Abia: APC - 13,394;

          PDP - 368,303

According to one analysis from Radio Nigeria this morning, PDP has won 9 states plus FCT while APC has won 9 states.
An unofficial information also has it that APC won in Lagos by a close margin, this is yet to be made official by INEC as all eyes now turn to JEGA.

BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO EXERCISES HIS FRANCHISE

Voting in Elections is more or less a duty than an obligation in a democratic setting. And when the setting is aa ours, unified diversity of religion, ethnic, tribe and interests, not much could be said or agreed on between a duty or obligation.

In recent times, many frontline preachers have come under attack by some elements in the country, Nigeria over what they term "meddling with politics".
To these elements, preachers should not in any way express themselves politically and should focus on their job which is just to preach.

To those, who are in favour of this line of thought, they base their arguments on the statement of Jesus
"...give to Caesar that which is Caesar's and to God, what is God's"...
claiming that Jesus tried as much as He can to disassociate Himself from politics.

Also, those against this school of thought believes that a pastor (or preacher as the case may be) is a bonafide citizen of the country and has every right to express himself politically.
That noted, in buildup to the 2015 general elections, many preachers of the gospel in Nigeria came under the hammer of those toeing the line of zero-participation against politics.

Among one of the preachers of the gospel, that was so badly hit was the presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church, Worldwide, and the senior pastor of Faith Tabernacle (a 50,000-seat capacity auditorium), Canaanland, Ota. During one of the services in his church, the president Goodluck Jonathan worshipped at the church and he, as nature demands, decided to pray for the country using the President as a point of contact. After the service, reports went viral, mostly on the social media (the biggest threat to journalism in the 21st century) that he had said he will open up the gates of hell against anybody who opposes the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan. After this dominated the cyber space for sometime, the church came out to issue a press release stating exactly what transpired during the visit of President Jonathan at the church. (read about that story here)
Sometime ago, he also asked church members to come to church with their voters' cards so as to pray for Nigeria and across the church network members came to church with their voters' cards and prayers were offered for the country using them.

Bishop Oyedepo is one man who has continued to show interest in the Nigerian agenda and continued to pray and call for peace to reign, on sunday 22nd March, he also led members in a session of prayers for the peace of Nigeria Read up story here.

With the elections already here, many thought that with the kind of publicity surrounding him he will choose not to vote; on Friday, the eve of the Presidential elections, I was speaking with a staff of the Church and he told me that Papa (that is what Bishop Oyedepo is fondly called by members) will not vote, I was like telling him that the Bishop Oyedepo I know will certainly vote. He said it was a lie, that he will never.

On saturday afternoon, TEAM VICSSIE received a report that Bishop David Oyedepo was present at his polling unit to be accredited.
Papa on his way to the polling unit to be accredited while the crowds shout "we love you papa"

On his arrival, shouts of "We love you Papa" went into the air as the people around hailed him for this action.

Papa getting ready to be accredited

After being accredited, he left the vicinity and returned later to cast his vote.

As at the time of this report, no one has come out to say whether his action of choosing to exercise his franchise is un-pastoric or is not worthy.

But, don't be surprised, if you hear on Monday that after he cast his vote, he prayed and all the other votes turned in the president's favour.

THE DAY...

THE NIGERIAN SYMBOL OF UNITY

Waoh!
The day we have all looked up to
many with excitement
others apprehensively
The day we know will surely come
in the history of our nationhood
no matter how many times we choose to jega it
The day we have all prayed for
planned for
and worked for
the day many have talked of
others have sang off
while others choose to fight off
it is the day when we will
across all boards
decide who and why
he should be in Aso
it is the day
in which our differences
will be unified
despite the outcome
it is the day we will decide
whether the umpire
is really of this empire
it is the day we will decide
whether he resign
or stay on after may 29
the day we will decide
between democracy
and gerontocracy
we go to the polls today

The day we will choose
among them all
the best of all
to lead us all
for the next four...
yes, it is the day we decide
and if another day comes after
then we must also decide
between
Federation...
Confederation...
and independenceS
...which is better.

ELECTORAL OFFENCES...how much do you know???

Just twenty-four hours to the 2015 general elections, the Nigerian Police has made public some of the acts which constitute electoral offence in Nigeria.
The symbol the Nigerian power

For the benefit of orientative reporting (which is what this blog majors), election is said to be a process in which people vote to choose a person to hold an official position. And in Nigeria this process has been slated for Saturday, March 28th 2015 for the electorate (electorate is the number of persons in a given state or community that is qualified and has the right to vote in any given election) to decide who the president of the country will be and who will represent them in the two chambers of the National Parliament.

345 days after... where are our Girls???

Today marks the 345th day after over two hundred girls were kidnapped by the violent religious sect based in Northern Nigeria, Boko Haram.

The girls were kidnapped from a boarding school-Government College- Chibok, on 14th April, 2013. Chibok is a town located south of Borno state in North-eastern Nigeria.

Government Secondary school, Chibok

This means that twenty days from today, the girls would have spent a year away from home, from their loved ones, from their friends and from their school.

After the girls were kidnapped, all around the world people kept on calling for their release. Campaigns and rallies were held almost everyday as more and more persons joined in the calls. Even in the US, rallies were held on daily basis by groups of ladies...(see video)

click here to watch video of a group holding rally at a Los Angeles school

A hashtag #bringbackourgirls was even invented on twitter to aid this cause. Within days it went viral and the campaign for the return of the girls became a global phenomenon and kind of united the whole world as even the wife of the US president, Michelle Obama joined in the campaign describing it as an "unconscionable act  committed by a terrorist group". (see pix 1)

Michelle Obama holding up a card in support of the call for the release  of the girls.

The whole world turned their focus to Nigeria, though momentarily, because after various nations offered their assistance, nothing came out of it. They seemed to have made the promises as part of the diplomatic responsibilities of cooperation with NIgeria. Their promises of military aid and finance were never sighted near the borders of Chibok. This has raised a lot of dusts as many thought it useless for them to have even made such promises. One of such are the parents of the girls who have continued to lament their lots.
"As far as our girls are concerned, they have been abandoned," said Mkeki Mutah, an uncle of two of the missing - 17-year-old Saratu and 18-year-old Elizabeth.
"There is a saying: 'Actions speak louder than words.' Leaders from around the world came out and said they would assist to bring the girls back, but now we hear nothing. The question I wish to raise is: why?" Mutah told Al Jazeera.
"If they knew they would not do anything, they wouldn't have even made that promise at all. By just coming out to tell the world, I see that as a political game, which it shouldn't be so far as the girls are concerned."

345 days, and no one seems to be talking about the Chibok girls, raising a lot of questions as to whether the girls are alive or dead. If they are alive, where on earth are they?
If they are dead, where were their bodies buried?? how were they killed???

The Nigerian government on its part, is she helping matters, what is she doing in the search for the missing girls. Sometime in June, 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan was quoted in a Washington Post as saying that his " government and our security and intelligence services have spared no resources, have not stopped and will not stop until the girls are returned home," This came after he was  accused of keeping silent on the mass abduction and failing to bring the girls home.

Today, 345 days, what actually has the government done???
Have the girls returned???
345 days after the abduction and barely three days to the day Nigeria decides on who will be their next president.
Will this be a decider of how the votes will go as is obtainable in other democratic countries??? I doubt so... because, whether there were actually Chibok girls, Nigerians seem to have forgotten as they have long forgotten about the event of April 14th 2014.

But, should we give up hope???? No, our girls must be brought back
#bringbackourgirls

they are our wives, sisters and friends

MR PRESIDENT WHY??????? (an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan)

Is it that you don't want to wave at me???

Mr. President!
WHY?????

Mr. President, why????

This was one of the reasons why I didn't initially accept your candidature.
Why will you as a the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria allow yourself to be smuggled over the heads of the people of Enyimba City by a few to a corner thereby denying you the opportunity to meet with and interact with the people who you claim to be leading.

To me this is unacceptable, there must be change. When you were Vice-president you were always seen around but, after you made those lofty promises you made during your "I have no shoes campaign"... ele way?... no one has seen you in the city.

We heard the other day that you were coming to the God's own state, we were all hoping to receive you only for you to end up in the state capital, we let you know our grievances and later pardoned you because we know our city is really wonderful to receive you at that time.

Then, came another news everywhere that you will be visiting us, the city went agog, everyone got set to meet with you, our loving president, our amiable and trustworthy president. We all ironed our clothes and brought out umbrellas in solidarity only for us to receive the unheard news...

THE VENUE HAS BEEN CHANGED>..... okay
BUT, IT IS NOW INVITES ONLY.....what????

Who changed the venue? what necessitated the change???
Mr. Presidet, there is God o
and why will our president come to a city as big and important as Aba is and only those with invitations can get to see him???

I sensed that this will happen when three days ago, I saw some persons cleaning the Ikot-Ekpene axis of Ogbor-Hill, at first I didn't know it was in preparation of your coming. I had thought it was just one of the candidates vying for one political post or the other doing that. But, today, I learnt that it was a laudable initiative of our "Legacy Governor".
Enyimba stadium, the aborted venue
When, yesterday, I heard on P and P (a political programme of Magic FM anchored by Big Bonny and Odochi Anaesthesia) that you will be visiting, I took my time and visited the Enyimba stadium, the proposed venue of your visit, but, it was not in a manner showing you will actually be hosted there. That was when I became curious. And on the D-day, I was no longer curious but...(I lack words).

Mr. president, just in case you haven't known, the city of Aba is the nerve of the south-east although many will want to argue this.

History has proved this overtime, the popular women riot of 1929 was organised by Aba women.

Aba is fondly called the "Japan of Africa", why???, because it is an international city (until when a few came on board and decided to wage war against the city, but, Aba will rise again).
The elephant is the strongest animal
Aba is called Enyimba, that is "the people's elephant"... because, the city is a leader-city when it comes to Nigerian politics. Just as the Elephant, Aba city is not a city to be toyed with, no one jokes with Aba (except a few who have to throw stones from afar).
Our late Ikemba, Eze gburugburu's death wish was for his corpse to be brought to Enyimba before the great people of Enyimba (kingmakers)

Eze Gburugburu lying in state at Aba

Even you, the Commander-in-chief of the armed forces must come in to the city to meet with a selected few, why did you have to fly over our heads into the city??? why???

nylon tarred roads
Is it because you didn't want to ride on the sambisa roads we ply daily. You didn't want to ply the Port-Harcourt road which in 2011 you promised will be a done deal before now.
Sambisa road
Is it because somebody doesn't want you to see his failures in the area of infrastructural development in the state???

Or is it that you were told you will be rained pure-water by the boys in the hood??? (but, to the best of my knowledge,it is not everyone that gets that treatment o, I go out everyday and no one has ever done that, but I only know of one person that gets it always.. an irony of sort , though)
Is it because someone didn't want to be viewed as being persona non grata in the city???

Mr. President, why??

Why did you allow yourself to be dragged into a feud you knew nothing about and you are not a party to.

Mr. President why???
why did you allow yourself to be presented to the people as insensitive???

This act of yours, mr president is totally unacceptable to us, especially in a democratic state as ours.

That act alone is enough to deny you the votes of the great people of Aba... because, it is an insult to us.
So, mr president, blame yourself if at the release of the results you are tied or you lose out to the opposition in the city... because, this act was a miscarriage to the pregnancy you have been nurturing for so long.

Mr pReSiDeNt why????

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA'S MESSAGE TO NIGERIANS AHEAD OF ELECTIONS.

Image result for obama
US president, Barak Obama

As we count down to the general elections in Nigeria beginning with this Saturday's Presidential and Federal Parliamentarian elections, the United States President, Barack Obama, on Monday sent a special message to us, tasking us on a credible and peaceful polls.
In his message which was made public on Monday and obtained by CENTUPOET (a member of TEAM VICSSIE), he wrote on the need to turn the nation's diversity into major economic strength while calling for a peaceful and violence-free polls.

Full text of Mr. Obama’s Message to you and I:

“Hello.  Today, I want to speak directly to you—the people of Nigeria.
Nigeria is a great nation and you can be proud of the progress you’ve made.  Together, you won your independence, emerged from military rule, and strengthened democratic institutions.  You’ve strived to overcome division and to turn Nigeria’s diversity into a source of strength.  You’ve worked hard to improve the lives of your families and to build the largest economy in Africa.
Now you have a historic opportunity to help write the next chapter of Nigeria’s progress—by voting in the upcoming elections.  For elections to be credible, they must be free, fair and peaceful.  All Nigerians must be able to cast their votes without intimidation or fear.
So I call on all leaders and candidates to make it clear to their supporters that violence has no place in democratic elections—and that they will not incite, support or engage in any kind of violence—before, during, or after the votes are counted.  I call on all Nigerians to peacefully express your views and to reject the voices of those who call for violence.  And when elections are free and fair, it is the responsibility of all citizens to help keep the peace, no matter who wins.
Successful elections and democratic progress will help Nigeria meet the urgent challenges you face today.  Boko Haram—a brutal terrorist group that kills innocent men, women and children—must be stopped.  Hundreds of kidnapped children deserve to be returned to their families.  Nigerians who have been forced to flee deserve to return to their homes.  Boko Haram wants to destroy Nigeria and all that you have worked to build.  By casting your ballot, you can help secure your nation’s progress.
I’m told that there is a saying in your country: “to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done”. Today, I urge all Nigerians—from all religions, all ethnic groups, and all regions—to come together and keep Nigeria one.  And in this task of advancing the security, prosperity, and human rights of all Nigerians, you will continue to have a friend and partner in the United States of America."

I AM CONFUSED O!

NIGERIAN GO TO THE POLLS

Ahead of the March 28th 2015 presidential elections in Nigeria, I just found out today that I am actually confused for the first time in my life.

I may not be the only one confused of this because it appears every Nigerian is confused.
Because if we are not all confused, we will not be going about the campaigns the way we have been going about it.

The two parties (although, there are 12 other parties in the race, I don't know if they are in the race or beside the race. Well, that is a discourse for March 30) contesting the elections, APC and PDP have continued the whole of Nigeria with promises of things which they will do for Nigerians if given the mandate.

APC on its part is shouting "CHANGE"

while PDP is shouting "TRANSFORMATION"

>...it was not of recent that I began asking myself the difference between the two. Ever since the campaigns began, it appeared Nigerians lost the pages of their dictionaries containing the meaning to those two words or is it just confusion???

Everywhere the PDP train goes to, people keep on shouting "we want transformation"
and anywhere the APC train moves, the chants are "we want change".

Someone please help me out here, is there any difference between the two? or is the difference only to me. Because, I just found out recently that the page in my dictionary containing the definition of transformation was folded (apparently by someone as curious as Ada Monique), which was why I was unable to decipher the meanings.

If there is a difference between the two, I want to know which one of them is worthwhile so that I could know which side to direct my pendulum on March 28th.

But, if there is actually no difference, then, we the electorates are of all men the most miserable. Because, we have blindly and sheepishly allowed ourselves to be drawn into this "no-difference-campaigns".
If there is no difference, then, the election is not worth all the tensions because the two men are promising the same.

So, on March 28th, whichever side the tide sweeps to the end result is sure let us accept it in good fate and work towards the set-out goal.

BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO OF WINNERS' CHAPEL PRAYS FOR NIGERIAN POLLS

"God Told Me What Will Happen This Year As Far Back As 2008" --- Bishop Oyedepo

Bishop David Oyedepo
“Please bring your PVCs out so we can pray and then close. We are using the PVC as a point of contact for a most-quiet, peaceful and serene election. A crises-free, bloodshed-free, turbulence-free election. We have brought Nigeria to this place and on this covenant day of settlement, the destiny of Nigeria is settled here today. Prophetically, God is speaking to the destiny of Nigeria saying, ‘Go forward’. Nigeria will be marching forward from this election. In the name of Jesus Christ.”
The above was how Papa, as Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners’ Chapel is affectionately called by his members, led his congregation on a hot session of prayers for the forthcoming elections in Nigeria on Sunday March 22, 2015. The 60-year-old Senior Pastor of the Living Faith Church, as the church is also called, also shocked the congregation by revealing for the first time that God had told him about 2015 as far back as 2008. During a service themed “Covenant Day of Settlement,” the popular faith preacher hinted the crowd at the 50,000-seater auditorium of what he called the “dreadful things” that God showed him will happen in this country this year in 2008. However, the man of God also added that the prayers of ‘the saints’ in Nigeria had averted the danger that hitherto threatened the unity of the nation.

“I have been privileged to be one of those custodians of a secret concerning this nation. And I have been working with that since 1979. He (God) lets me know whatever He thinks I should know about the events coming. And in 2008, I saw very dreadful things about 2015. And that’s why we are standing in prayers, to avert unwanted occurrences. And I know He has heard our prayers. And as we pray again today, He will hear us,”
he said during one of the four services at Faith Tabernacle, Otain Ogun State, headquarters of the ministry.
PEACEFUL POLLS, VICTORY AGAINST BOKO HARAM
He then led his members in a five-minute prayer session for Nigeria ahead of the polls, urging the members to raise their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ‘as a point of contact’.
“Every good thing you wish for Nigeria, lift your card and begin to pray your heart out right now. In the name of Jesus, because of the saints that dwell in Nigeria [the God of Genesis 18 is still alive; He said if I see 50 good people there I will spare]; for the sake of the saints, no blood shall be spilled in this election. Nigeria shall not go down into crisis. There shall be no inroad for ISIS in Nigeria. The victory God is giving us in the North-east today shall be perfected. It shall become history that some territories were taken in Nigeria.”
“God, let your peace reign supreme in our country before, during and after the forthcoming elections. Let there be no bloodshed; let only your choice emerge winner at all levels, prove that you rule in the kingdom of men and you give it to whosoever you will. The noise of war shall cease and shall be heard no more. In the name of Jesus Christ.”

WINNERS, LOSERS, AND SECURITY AGENTS
He ended by raising a special prayer point, that whoever wins in the forthcoming elections will be filled with the wisdom to make peace with the losers to avoid trouble, noting that in a contest, there must be winners as well as losers.
“I’m not sure there is an elective post that has only one contestant, somebody must win. But the winners will possess the wisdom that will appease the losers and peace shall reign in our country. Angels of God will take position around the country; this election will be to the advancement of our nation. There shall be no setback in Nigeria, no working day shall be cancelled, no business will be shut, like a dream of the night, this election will come and go. There shall be no gunshots at any polling booth, no polling booth shall be bombed; no security agent shall die. We are for peace, we will promote peace, we will act peace, we will speak peace; Nigeria shall not go down. There shall be no curfew anywhere in Nigeria. In the name of Jesus.”

He then asked members of the congregation to echo the following after him:
“Say with me, Nigeria is rescued; Nigeria is saved; the future of Nigeria is secure; Nigeria shall not see war; Nigeria is going forward.”

MY MANDATE

They came requesting for it
my mandate!
requesting for my right
with sugary mouths
they showered promises on me
which in exchange for it, will give me

when the day came for me to give it
I stood in endless queues of heads
with the sun giving room to the rain
which caused us to scatter
but, with shivers later gather

And when the time came
I was bewildered of who to
among they, give it to

Then, with a mind scale
I weigh they all
and their promises weigh I also

Alas!
I was unable to decide
who, why,
I should my mandate give.

This poem is dedicated to my fellow compatriots as we get set for the polls, weigh the candidates. The future of our dear land is at stake.
